The Excellence Model is a powerful tool with which to understand our complex and interconnected world, and with this understanding thrive and succeed on change. However our craving for quick solutions drives us from understanding the world as it is, and in its place creating a simple yet unrepresentative alternative. We live each day as a continuation of the last, and limitless opportunity passes us by in each moment, unseen.
To succeed in a world of change, we must allow opportunity, and the space for opportunity is created by being unsure.
Like an explorer we must press ahead not knowing what lies around the next corner, or is hidden in the next moment.

We live in a complex and deeply interconnected world. It is a world of immense uncertainty and unlimited opportunity. Indeed these are part of this deep interconnectedness. Without profound uncertainty, there is no space for opportunity.

The Excellence Model developed by members of the European Foundation for Quality Management is a tool of tremendous potential. It is a tool designed to help us decipher, understand and succeed in this interconnectedness. However the results from its use are almost always disappointing with even the most successful advocates barely scratching the surface of the available improvement opportunities.

It is our search for quick solutions and guaranteed results that drives us away from uncertainty, yet it is uncertainty itself that provides the space in which opportunity can exit.

To succeed in an uncertain world we must adopt the approach of the explorer ready to accept each moment as an opportunity for new discovery. This book is the catalyst to exploration, providing insights into the nature of change and untangling the mass of conflicting information to reveal the underlying knowledge.
